Dr Clown’s top priority is the quality of its hospital services.  That is why we choose to work with professional clowns and artists.  People who wish to become therapeutic artists must have a solid sense of their clown persona, the ability to reach out to and touch other human beings, and both the desire and the ability to work with a partner.  They must be versatile and flexible, yet serious and disciplined in their commitment to their work.

Artistic skills are not the only qualifications that matter to us.  Sensitivity, empathy, and maturity are also important.  It is not easy to work in a hospital environment; it can be difficult, even horrifying, to be confronted with suffering, illness, and death.  The artists who work for Dr Clown must be able to face these realities without losing their desire to give, to laugh, and to make others laugh.

What to do
1. Take the time to read the information contained in this website.
2. Read our code of ethics carefully
3. Send us a letter of intent that explains, in one to two pages, why you would like to become a Dr Clown artist, along with your curriculum vitae and photos of you and your clown character.
4. When we need to hire more staff, and if your profile fits our needs, we will contact you.
5. You must register for one or several internships in clowning with our Artistic Director, Francine Côté (download PDF).
6. Selected artists will receive our specific training for work in a hospital setting.
7. New artists are coached by a more experienced artist for a period of several weeks.
